How Old is this Rum, and Other Grad Party Questions

This weekend was my grad party, which I have been looking forward to since I made my "Save the Date" Facebook event a month and a half ago.

Luckily, the rain held out for most of the party, and we had lots of friends and family to eat and drink our food and beverage.  I forgot to write down all the funny stuff we said throughout the day/night, but those who were cool enough to come know it all.

And, my favorite buddy of all came to wish me happy graduation!

This is Jacen, my best bud, and he quickly took over my party by being the most adorable graduate in attendance.

I think maybe I'll come to his second birthday party this weekend and show him just what it feels like.  Just kiddingggggg!!

Amy and I needed to try to take a nice picture because we don't have any.  Most of them involve funny faces and exercise balls.

It took us awhile, though, so Alex snapped these photos.

They probably describe our relationship better than a nice picture.  Question... why are we like this?

Around 6, it started monsooning and I started telling people that the easy up was going to break.  Everyone told me that it was fine.  Then this happened.  Why did it happen?  Another question.  Poor easy up.

But of course, we still needed to get beer, so Travis and I tag teamed it and braved the rain.  I was kind enough to share my umbrella.  I'm good like that.  Take away the keg, and this might be a quite adorable photo.  Why did we keep the keg so far away from the house?  The questions continue.

There was one real mystery of the night, though.  Once we had our fill of beer and wine, we decided that rum was much needed.  Nobody could drive to the package store, and my brother had gone off to be cool with his friends and their trucks, so my mom searched her cabinets for some rum.

We found this.  Seems normal, right?  Perhaps a couple of years old.  But nothing more, correct?

Except it apparently cost $4.90.  I'm not sure if you know this, but in a normal universe, Bacardi does not cost 4.90.  Try quadrupling that.

Also, the back of the bottle had six recipes, was missing a "don't drink if you're pregnant" warning, and spelled rum like "rhum."

And finally, if you would like any more recipes, the bottle instructs you to write to Bacardi for a... recipe booklet.

So, can someone please tell me the answer to this most important question... how old is this rum??

Honestly, I don't really care.  Rum is rum is rum.

Thanks to everyone who came to celebrate and party with me!  I had the best time!

I have watched five episodes of Gilmore Girls today,

A-Pizza Party!!!

As I type this, I am falling asleep at my keyboard.  It's 8:01pm.  Why am I like eighty years old?

I agree with Jen in her text message that she just sent me: "This working for a living is exhausting."  We'd better marry rich.  Just kidding.  Sort of.

(It's funny because Jen has had seventeen jobs at a time since birth and I am consistently interning, looking for an internship, stressing about an internship, stressing about my life, or most often, all of the above)

So now for the content of this blog entry.  After I made two batches of pizza dough last week and then subsequently made a third, I invited everyone I know over to my house for homemade pizza.  And, too my great surprise, everyone I invited came, even though I live in the boonies!  I felt loved and important.

Okay I'm sorry but I have to interrupt myself here.  Enrique Iglesias is on Two and a Half Men.  Can someone please explain this to me?

I can beeee your hero bayyyybayyyyy....

Sorry.  I'm done now.  Back to the pizza.

When everyone arrived, I had rolled out all the dough on pans (which was difficult, actually) and was almost done with making the pizza.  I delegated hosting duties (ie: pouring wine and taking pictures) to Amy, and she began snapping pictures.
My mom was my sous-chef because I'm messy when I cook (and all the rest of the time) so she likes to clean up after me.  Hey, I don't mind!

Also... this is the only picture we have of the actual pizza.  That's the last time I let Amy be the photographer.

It's very important to check your pizza often and always wear a Christmas apron.

But the real star of the party was this guy here.  No, not Jay... I'm not about to help feed his ego.

I mean this guy.  Aiden.  He stole mine and Amy and Rachel's hearts.

And he also had some sweet dance moves while he was waiting for dinner.

Dancin' with myse-elf...

Yeah, I'll probably quote song lyrics again.  I'm not going to fool anyone here.

Aiden also brought his fire truck book and wanted to take a picture of the wheel.

Success!

Rachel found a way to pass the time until the pizza came out of the oven.

Oh, hey, Andy and Ben.  You look really thrilled to be at my pizza party.

Poor Jay and Ashley.  Amy just had to take a picture of them eating.

Hey, Aiden, what do you think of my pizza??  Is it delicious??

...Aiden!!  I'm offended!  (But you're still really adorable)

And in the end... all the pizza was consumed and the world was happy.  I think this is all the evidence we need to prove that I'm an excellent chef.

PS.... I have two more batches of pizza dough!!  Pizza when we get back to school!

Love and I'm never trusting Amy with my camera again,
Courtney

"Presentable isn't even in my vocabulary."

This weekend was Amy's graduation party, which gave us an excuse for blowing off a lot of steam built up by our week at work.  The word "TechDP" wasn't uttered once.  Nor were the words "summer challenge."  It was a very happy weekend.

Because I'm the procrastinator of all procrastinators, I was an hour late to the party.  But it was okay only because I brought a gigantic platter of cupcakes with me, causing oohs and ahhs and "I'm going to massacre those cupcake" statements from my target cupcake audience: a bunch of slightly tipsy early twenty-something girls that will drop whatever they are doing at the promise of cupcakes, cake, candy, sugar, or all of the above.  Namely, a bunch of people exactly like me.

We made dragonberry-extra-dragon drinks with big girl juice and poured them into Solo cups for college-time's sake, and because Amy's friend Rachel knows me too well, or perhaps because I'm so ridiculous that everyone knows I love John Mayer within five minutes of meeting me, she labeled my cup "John Mayer <3s Courtney."  It's totally true, don't lie.

There was a slip-and-slide involved and Amy crushed my arm with her body, but I forgave her because we're the same person and it would just be wrong to not forgive yourself.  My cupcakes were massacred in five minutes, which I took as a compliment, and the day progressed into evening strangely quickly.  There was flip cup and pong and Apples to Apples, all three of which I was terrible at, and as the night wore on we started dropping one by one into bed.

My new fast friend Brittany and I decided that it would be an excellent idea to follow Amy as she walked one of our friends to his car, so we pretended like we were 007's, ducking behind trees and cars and bushes.  Our stealth succeeded when we snuck up behind Amy and scared her to no end, and after we got beer poured on ourselves, we found out just what a protective friend Jim was when he bravely texted Amy to find out if she was all right.  It's really good to know that he wouldn't have turned back and checked on her.  But then, what are friends for?

We sat on the porch in the dark, laughing and texting and being messes and eating a hunk of cake that emerged from Amy's fridge.  How big was this cake, you ask?

Oh yeah.  It was a lotta cake.

And to protect our friendship, I did not post the pictures of Amy eating said cake.  I totes would have posted them if she hadn't said, "I'll kill you if you post these."  I value my life very much.

After the post-party sleep-carb-sleep-chocolate-reality tv-sleep recovery period, I find myself back here.  At work.  Disheartened.  Alone.  Not really alone, because Amy is here and I'm at a workplace and everything.  But I have one thing to look forward to...

John Mayer on the Today Show on Friday.

I will be on TV, people.  I will.

Love and weekend longings,
Courtney
