How to Repel a D-bag (according to people from Brooklyn)

I feel like every week, I start off like "Oh man it's Monday, this is totally the worst, I wish it was the weekend" and then one second later, it's Friday again, and I'm like, "How did it get to be Friday, this is awesomecrazy!"  And then the weekend goes by in an even faster blur, and I'm back at Monday all "Seriously, Monday again?  How is this possible?"  So this continues over and over again until pretty soon I'm like thirty-five, saying, "But you guys, I thought I was just a freshman in college?!?"

Anyways.

This is what's on my schedule for this weekend:

Tonight I'm going to go home, make dinner, watch Hulu, fight with myself about making myself look presentable, fight with myself to make me actually leave the house, dance to "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen for fifteen minutes straight, then meet up with ^^^ this kid (Frank) downtown because I haven't seen him in ages.  He's being all studious and pre-lawyer and stuff.

I'm seeing Heather too, but she's featured on this blog an awful lot, and I couldn't find a picture of the three of us.

And I'm actually technically crashing their dinner date, but you know, it's fine.  It happens.  It's cool.  Don't give me that look!

Then, if I'm feeling brave...

http://www.hobokenlepre-con.com/

I might partake in Broboken's first annual Lepre-con tomorrow.  Oh, lawsy mercy.

You see, I asked someone "Why does Hoboken have a St. Patty's bar hop when it's not St. Patty's?"

His response?  "Cuz they are awesome."

While that makes a lot of sense, and everything (no, it doesn't), but I Googled it and it turns out that the Lepre-con is happening this weekend because the "parade committee" just did this little thing called, you know, banning the city from having their annual St. Patrick's Day parade.  Now, why on earth would they do that?  Perhaps because of the excessive "lewd behavior, public drinking and other safety issues."

I totally wouldn't expect that at all of Broboken, so I'm sure that the festivities this weekend will be totally calm and uneventful and appropriate.  So yeah.  That might happen.

But one thing I'm definitely doing this weekend is seeing...

The Mimes and Mummers present Next to Normal!  I can't wait to see what these kids (along with Joshua Chase Gold, director of Mimes' Spelling Bee last year) have done with one of my favorite musicals.  And with the abundance of pre-show carb loading at Emilia's, it's sure to be a delicious night.

And it might look something like this:

(Circa 2009)

In case you didn't look closely enough, let me point out something important to you:

The original Mike Burns face, where it all began.

And then I'm headed over to the Greenwich Country Club for the first time with Jack and Jenny, but I'm not going to insert a picture here because I really want to finish writing this blog sometime soon.

Finally, here is one thing I'm not doing this weekend, but I found it pretty amusing and thought you all should know about it:

XXXXX FRIDAY, MARCH 2 XXXXX

Cat Face

A party where you draw a cat face on your face. Douchebags don’t like to draw cat faces on their faces so basically there will be no douchebags. The last one of these was amazing, sweaty fun till the lights went on. With DJs Mischief, Dirty Finger, Rpeg, Jess OK. Bad Kitty phone booth.

Public Assembly

70 North 6th Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn
9p-4a; $5 with a cat face, $20 without

(as listed on nonsensenyc)

So, there you go, kids.  If you don't want to hang out with douchebags, draw a cat face on your face.  One of life's greatest mysteries: solved.

Happy weekend!

Saturday Night

Sooo it's Saturday night at 12:30am (which I guess would make it Sunday morning).  And I'm sitting at home in bed.

But I'm cool with it since I'm pretty sleepy.  I got these...

...sweatpants on because it's brr cold in this basement.  Which I love because I love to bundle.

I went to go see this bunch of misfits known as the Mimes and Mummers in The Drowsy Chaperone tonight.  They were all fantastic and I wasn't even sad that I wasn't part of the show because they did so well.  It was a bit of a weird show in and of itself, but they were funny and entertaining and I hope I cheered loud enough.

I even put on makeup.  But mostly for my love Chris Ingrao who basically could sing the phone book and sound amazing.  No, really.  And he tap dances too!

A bunch of alumni went out beforehand to Emilia's for dinner, which I wish I had taken pictures of, but I didn't.  In lieu of those, why don't we look at some pictures from last week?

Hi friends!  Isn't it great being old now?

Look at that birthday boy dance.

Uh yeah so it started raining and guess which smart kids didn't have umbrellas...

But moving back to now... I wanted a snack.

It's in this bowl!

Peas!

Oops, one fell out onto the keyboard.  I ate it anyways.

I love peas!

Yummmm.

A weird midnight snack?  Yes.  Doing it anyways?  Yes.

But now they're all gone...

...and I'm sleepy.

So it's Saturday night and I'm sitting at home in bed.  And now I'm going to sleep.  And I'm 100% okay with that.

Good night!

Back to Business

Okay, so let's get back into this blogging business...

Oh hey.  How have you been?  Good??  Excellent.  That's what I like to hear.  Enough about you; let's talk about me (it's my blog, right?).

I did this show called The Wild Party and it was really awesome.  I haven't really accepted that the show is over.  It's hard to accept things when you blatantly refuse to.

I also haven't accepted that it's not okay to parade around naked all the time.  This show definitely gave me skewed perceptions about appropriateness in public.  I have to remind myself that, in general, one is required to be clothed at all times.

Ignore the weird angle of this photo.  Just focus on the clear happiness of the people in the picture.

Raymond McLeod, who played Eddie in the original cast of The Wild Party, and his family came to see the show on Saturday night, which was super awesome.  He even took a picture with our group of misfits after the show.

WARNING!  The next picture is gross.  Not really gross.  But pretty gross.  It's of my foot.

I had many ailments during the run of the show (pink eye, mono/bronchitis?, slipping in my hallway, cut on my foot, and either the bubonic plague or dry hands from sanitizing too much [verdict is out]), so it was only fitting that I got this lovely thing during the last show.  Thank you, Mike Dahlgren and John Schule, for injuring not only yourselves but me as well during your fight scene.

The good part was that it was only a hematoma (bad bruise) and got better quickly, but allowed me to get script erasing duty during strike, rather than my customary general cleaning.

I've been painting because I'm taking a painting class, and that's generally what you do.  This is a master copy of Cezanne.  I had to use all the colors and it was difficult.  I did it while watching Jeopardy!, Glee, and The Office, so it was a pretty productive night.

This is a still life of apples and bowls.  It got hung in the hallway.  It was too big for the refrigerator.  Joke??  Get it??

This is Gupta, my fish.  I got him at Petland Discounts two Saturdays ago.  I named him the following Wednesday.  He was dead when I came home on Friday.

We had a fish funeral.  Chris Ingrao sang Ave Maria as he floated down the toilet bowl.  It was a fitting tribute to the six days we spent together.

Jenny Dorso says that if I had named him Pinky, he wouldn't have died.  I resent that suggestion.

I have dreams about acquiring new small animals and being unable to take care of them.  Also, I'm getting a new fish tomorrow.

In final news, did you know that in Somers, Connecticut, Christmas lasts until March?  Apparently it does.  Especially when your father takes the Christmas tree outside, only to have it be covered by a snowstorm, and another snowstorm, and another one, until it's March and you have a Christmas tree in your backyard.

We live near farms.  Nobody notices a stray pine tree.

Tomorrow I'm heading back to the Bronx to do laundry and pack and then head out to NEW ORLEANS with Miss Jen Lavalle for Senior Spring Break 2011.  Here comes trouble.  And 75 degree weather!

YEEEEAHHH!!!

Love,
Courtney

PS: That whole playing the guitar thing?  Uhm yeah.  I kind of forgot about it.  Whoops.

(I haven't blogged in a month.  I've been busy.  This is why.)

Remember that time a little more than ten years ago when Andrew Lippa wrote a superfantastic show called The Wild Party and it never came to Broadway because Lachuisa's version was already on Broadway?  Don't you hate that?  Yeah, me too!

So really... before you go party it up on Friday and Saturday nights (and Thursday and Sunday, too, if that's what you're into), come to the REAL party... The WILD Party, the show so scandalous that Fordham doesn't even want you to see our poster on campus.  No, really.  It's that hot.

DON'T YOU WANT TO BE THE LIFE OF THE PARTY???

It's That Time

It's that time....

When I have to start applying for internships.
Which reminds me that this is my last semester to apply for internships.
Because after this semester I'll need a job.
Which makes me nervous.
Which makes me hyperventilate.
Which makes me run around my room a little.
Which doesn't last very long because my room is like 7 feet by 5 feet.
Which reminds me that I'll also need to find an apartment.
Which will probably be very small.
Which makes me wonder where I will put all my clothes.
Which makes me give up and want to just watch Grey's Anatomy on Hulu.

Just kidding.  A little.  But it DOES make me put in a shameless plug on my blog to say:
Hey!  If you are an internship that I applied to this week and you Googled me, hello!  Yes, I am the Courtney S(hizzle - sorry, had to take it out so my peeps can't Google mah blog - 6/21/11) that you intended to find on Google because I have pretty much determined that I am the only Courtney S(hizzle) in the world.  I would REALLY LIKE to intern with you, and I promise that I'm hard working and a good writer and will do anything you ask me to do.  Trust me, I worked at the Today Show, and the word "No" wasn't allowed within the doors of 30 Rock.  So please, interview me!  You won't regret it!

It is also that time...

For a new Mimes and Mummers show to open!  We had our opening night last night and it went excellently, so we need to TOP it tonight!  8pm, Collins Auditorium... be there!

Also, afterward, as is tradition with the Mimes, we put on a sketch parodying the show.  I have to say that I was pretty darn funny.  But that's just me.

I would also like to say that it is two weeks and one day until my birthday.  I.  Am.  So.  Close.  To not being a baby anymore.  Yayyy!

Love and LAUGHTER,
Courtney

Asbestos and Acouchi

PART ONE: IN WHICH THE MIMES AND FET BOARDS EXPOSE THEMSELVES TO ASBESTOS

Once upon a time, Stephanie decided that it would be a good idea to be responsible and leave future generations of Fordham theatreites with a lasting gift from the 2010 Mimes and FET boards.  She decided that we should clean and organize the prop and costume rooms.  I thought this was an excellent idea.

Until this morning.

Because you see, I didn't take any "before" pictures, but most people will attest that the prop room looked a little bit like this:

Except with like twelve pieces of furniture stacked precariously in the middle of the room, ready to crash down at any moment.  I took this picture from an episode of Hoarders.  I felt it was the only appropriate situation that could show what a problem we had on our hands.

But with a bunch of unsuspecting underclassmen who wanted to become Mimes ("Hey, if you come to this alternate strike, you can be a Mime in just a week!  We promise it won't be hard...") we worked miracles.  And pretty soon, the prop room looked like...

This.

Well, actually, like this, because we had to put the furniture we saved back into the room.  But the first picture is just so dramatic.

And the dumpster looked like this.  I would say that we actually did a service to the Fordham community because we saw more than one Fordham student looking through it to see what they could find.  Yes, I'm serious.

And there may or may not be a piece of wood in there that has asbestos on it, but it's okay!  It was probably just... dust... or something...

And then Dave and I found a notebook.

Our guess is that CHRIS BENNETT made this.  Are we right???

There were some keen observations inside.  My favorite is, "Pete is a good reader."

Dave was especially surprised to find a portrait of himself in it!

Ha.  Hee.  Ha.  Ho.  I crack myself up.

----------
PART TWO: BACK TO FRESHMAN YEAR

The rest of this weekend was a little bit of a mish-mash of everything, but here are the highlights.

We had a Spelling Bee reunion, and I don't remember taking pictures.  Evidently, however, I did.

I felt like this one best captured the overall mood of the night.

My parents came for family weekend and we went to the zoo.  I met this gorilla and liked him very much.

I found an ACOUCHI in the monkey house.  This is what an acouchi looks like, in case you were wondering.

It also looks like this.  It wouldn't stay very still for me.  Butthead.

And also, Google spell check is telling me that acouchi is spelled wrong.  But I know that they are wrong because it is a word in Spelling Bee and I definitely know how to spell it, dammit.

I had some much needed girl-time with Andrea and Jen, and we met a cat.  I think it's the first cat that has ever liked Andrea!

It liked Jen too.  So did the guy who didn't speak English at the counter.

Then we went and pretended we were freshmen on Eddie's.

Oh, the memories.

Courtney
