Uses for Plastic Wrap

In part two of my I-have-too-much-free-time series, I will reveal another piece of how crazy I am.  But in my defense, this crazy idea was fueled by Amy, as most crazy things that I do are.

After a jam-packed day of going to the caf, watching five episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, enjoying my financial accounting homework, and eating some delicious rice and beans leftovers, I decided to watch the VMA's while painting my nails.  Both tasks were accomplished successfully.  However, I wanted to go to bed in the hopes of being productive the next day, and I didn't want to mess up my new nails!  Thus... a dilemma emerged.

They were just so perfect and nice looking!  Beauty?... sleep?... beauty?... sleep?... I didn't know what to do.

Then a little voice came into my head from the T.  The voice belonged to Amy.  And I remembered some wise (okay, crazy) advice.

"Next time, why don't you just use..."

"...PLASTIC WRAP??"

So I plastic wrapped my fingers.  My roommates now think I'm a nutso freak.  They're right.

This task proved to be more difficult than I originally thought.

Pretty soon all of my fingers were just sticking together.

But eventually, I got all of those alien-looking fingers good and preserved for bedtime.

Well, except for my right pinky finger.  Reasons why:
1) I got bored.
2) I got frustrated.
3) I have a short attention span.
4) I needed one finger that I could text with.
5) I'm in a fight with my pinky nail because it used to be long and then it broke and I haven't gotten over it.

After discovering how difficult it was to text, type, read, take my medicine, and set my alarm, I finally went to sleep with high hopes.  I awoke this morning slightly confused and ready to see how my experiment had gone.  The verdict...

Beauteous!

But so not worth it.

I Should Never Plan For Anything

I cannot handle myself right now.  This statement could be true most days, but it very true right now.  "Why??" you may ask.  "Are you incredibly busy and stressed out and have papers and classes and auditions and internships and tours and other important things?"

No.

I am bored.

I am not USED to being bored.

I am not a bored person.

I am especially not a borING person.  But we all know that.

Therefore, I have nothing to write about, except being bored.  Plus, I have become exceedingly reliant on my phone since my computer broke, and even though it's back now, it's difficult to pry my hand away from my Droid to type.  Droid does... take over your brain.

So here is a bunch of mishmash from my two-ish-something weeks back at school.  I'm so bored I don't even know how long I've been bored for.

My life.

Well, first off, I live in a hotel.  Not really.  But it really looks like a hotel.  There are also fire alarms nearly every day because Fordham really wants to make sure that the new buildings don't burn down.

Although, I don't think that steam from your shower can burn down the buildings.  They're just really careful here.

This is our too-small living room.  There is a love seat and a chair.  Because evidently, a five-person apartment doesn't need five seats.

We do have a blue accent wall, though.  Win for us.

This is our kitchen.  It's an "open floor plan," if your definition of open floor plan is having kitchen appliances in the hallway.  We run our dishwasher at least once a day.  Good thing this is a green building, or something.

My bedroom is cozy.  And also, small.  And also, red.  But you know what else it is?  Mine.  All mine.

Amy and I made strengths bags based on our StrengthsFinder 2.0 assessments, which we did at Travelers and super, super love.  I love my strengths an unnatural amount.  Hence why I designed a bag based on them.

My strengths bag is so empowering.  I'm feeling so "empowered woman" lately.  I love it.

Hey, Amy, I promise to reorder your bag.  It has improved my life tenfold.  Not to rub it in.  Oops.

In the new buildings, there is a new dining place, too.  The best attribute of this new dining place is a machine with make-your-own-ice-cream.  Yes.  Make your own.  All the time.  70+ flavors.

I need one of these for my living room.  It can go right in the middle of the floor, because that's the only open space in the room.

My first choice was caramel with chocolate chunks.  It was the best decision I made all day.  I feel like someone milked a cow, churned it into ice cream, and served it to me right then.  That's how good it was.

It's very possible that I will gain some weight this semester.  I will worry about this at a later time.

My friends and I went downtown to do a little shopping on one of our days off a couple of weeks ago.  Right in the middle of Herald Square, instead of going to Macy's and JCPenney and all sorts of other normal stores, we found Jack's Discount Store.  It was huge.  And everything on the first floor was one dollar.

Needless to say, I went a little shop crazy.  BUT I ONLY SPENT TWELVE DOLLARS!

Among the things I bought...

Alphabet magnets for the fridge.  Since there was only one of each letter, my name was the only one we could spell.  I'm gifted like that.  For shizzle.

This is a blurry picture of Miranda with a giant lighter.  We found it.  We documented it.  It doesn't work.

-----

Now, my sights are set on getting an internship, which is exactly what I told myself I wouldn't do this semester.  But if I've learned anything in the past two weeks, it's that just when you think you have a plan set for yourself, everything's going to turn upside down.  So where do you go from there?

Well, I don't know.  That's yet to be seen.  And that's okay.

Positivity!!

Oh, and if you are the internship I just applied for, hello there!  Please don't take my recent lack of blogging activity as indicative of my usual habits.  And, I really, really want to interview with you.  I didn't just make that up for my cover letter paragraphSo... contact me!!

Love and looking forward,
Courtney

Dear Bloggity Blog

Dear Bloggity Blog,

I'm very sorry that I've been MIA.  When I didn't have my computer anymore, it all went downhill from there.  I promise to give you more attention soon.

Well, as long as I don't forget again.

Please love me again,
Courtney

Updates

Updates on my life:
- I have returned to the Bronx, where all is noisy and colorful
- I have a beautiful new apartment, which I have taken over
- My roommate Katie is moving in tomorrow, which means I have to reign myself in a bit
- We all know that this task is a little difficult for me
- There is a rap video being shot outside bedroom window
- There is a train going by my window
- Contrary to popular belief, the train is not the loudest noise outside my window
- In actuality, the loudest noise outside my window is the rap music that gets played through blown out speakers in beaten up cars
- I don't like rap music when I'm sleeping
- I don't like rap music ever
- My Mac is in the mail after being fixed and will be sent to me shortly which is why I haven't updated
- I miss my Mac
- I miss my blog
- I miss Amy too much
- The same goes for her missing me
- A BAG GOT STOLEN FROM MY CAR AT MOVE IN
- THIS BAG HAD ELEVENISH PAIRS OF SHOES IN IT
- I miss my blue Steve Madden suede boots, the only expensive shoes I own(ed)
- They no longer make my boots in blue. I hate change
- I miss my Apt 9 plaid blue heels. The brand is "madi." Look them up and you'll comprenday
- They no longer make these heels
- Can someone ask Steve Madden and Kohls to make these shoes for me again?
- I did, however, find three pairs of my shoes online
- For this reason, I should always shop at Payless
- It's BOGO at Payless. This is a sign
- This is bedtime

Love and seepy-seeps,
Courtney

Bronx Courtney is Back

My eight million bags are packed, I have way too much stuff, and the only thing left to do is to get everything in the cars (yes, multiple) and get to the Bronx in one piece.  And unpack it all.  Sigh.

Because my mother is watching Bachelor Pad, I have like five seconds to write up a little ditty for you all before I have to go drown in material objects again.  But I thought that this video was appropriate for my transition from Somers to Bronx again tomorrow.  It was brought to my attention last week by Joanna, and I think it's rather appropriate for me in many ways.  (Hint: Watch until the end!!!)

You Can Stand Under My (Red) Umbrella, ella, ella

Disclaimer: Yes, I know I've been a little MIA lately, but I am trying to win the "most obscene display of materialism" award on Tuesday at move-in and am trying to pack everything I own into bins and suitcases.  It's tough, time-consuming work, so don't blame me.  Please.

After two summers and a winter at the T, Travs, Travelers, as a non-tech technical intern (contradiction?  Yes), Friday was my last day in good ol' Hartford.  Well, maybe.  Unless Amy and I get the a-okay to come back in the winter.  But just in case, I am mourning this ending as it should be mourned.

In honor of Travelers and all the people in it, here are some pictures from my phone that I took while interning this summer.  They bring a tear to my eye...

This is TechDP headquarters, aka "The Corner Part 2," aka the place everyone wants to be, aka Amy's and my desks.  Normally, they're a lot messier than shown, but we were... were... were... about to leave.  Pictured in the desk area are Amy (naturally) and two of the main frequenters of our desks, Jay and ScottyMac.  HEY JAY!  HEY SCOTTY!  BET YOU DIDN'T WANT ME TO POST THIS PICTURE, DID YOU???

Do you miss us?

...Jay?  Scotty??

...you miss us, right???!?!?!!

Sad now.

[Update 8/23/10: This section of my entry was clearly a desperate cry for attention, and I expected some sort of heartwarming and/or sarcastic comment from Jay or ScottyMac on my blog and/or Facebook.  I got neither.  From either person.  Disappointment reigns.]

Here is the entrance to our desk area, complete with a picture of last year's TechDP intern class (NOSTALGIA) and a sign for the counseling chair which subsequently went out of service when we got our exercise balls.  Oh, and there's a quote about our exercise balls.  It reads: "Do you know what this is?  This is a fitness orb, and it has completely changed my life." -Dwight Schrute.  Only the coolest of cool kids live their lives by The Office wisdom.

We left the signs up when we left.  Everyone must remember us.

Speaking of exercise balls, here is mine.  It used to live under my desk; now it will live under my desk at school.  It misses its friend, Amy's exercise ball, just as I miss my friend, Amy.  COME BACK FROM NEW HAMPSHIRE!

This is FrankyPanky, another intern.  He is one half of the intern combo Frandy, of which the other half is not pictured.  I'm not sure if that sentence was grammatically correct.

I love this picture because Amy and I are so devious.  Gregg will totally miss us pranking him 24/7.

Oh yes.  Oh yes.  Excellent.

I first learned about VitaMuffins at Travelers, and Amy was nice enough to bring one in for me.  I ate it.  It was very delicious, as the package boasts.  I need to buy me some of those.

Oh wait... we do work at Travelers?  I almost forgot.  I didn't take this pictures (obviously), but here are Amy and I presenting our end-of-summer presentation.  Why present together?  Possible reasons: we are the same person, we did the same thing all summer, we don't like extended periods of time away from one another, we rely on each other for validation, we didn't want to waste everyone's time by saying the same thing twice, we wanted to...

On our last day, Nancy took us to lunch and we got these gorgeous looking lemonades and iced teas.  Then we tasted them and had a sugar rush for ten hours.

There was also a giant heart character in a top hat to send us off.  Amy was especially excited and ran up to hug him right away.  And by that last sentence, I actually meant that she was totally freaked out and hid behind me as we walked by.

Some fine gentlemen were practicing their Wii skills in the Link.  Everyone knows that to be a successful businessman you have to have excellent golf skills!  Just ask my Dad.  And John Rossley.  Nerd.

But of course, we had to let everyone know that we will never be gone for good.  AmCo leaves a permaimpression wherever we go.

Bye, dearest Travs!  See you soon...??

Love and red um-ber-ellas,
Courtney

Unrelated PS: SOMEBODY THAT I DON'T KNOW ACTUALLY COMMENTED ON MY OLD BLOG!  THEY THANKED ME FOR A RECIPE!  I'M FAMOUS!

You Know You're in Somers When...

The new flavor of ice cream is called "Cow Tippin."
